(Usually erected so that construction & maintenance can be undertaken within food factories etc without compromising production/hygiene standards)
S & S Scaffolding have a considerable experience of working within the food/beverage industry and within other 'hygienic or clean room' type environments. See information on our qualified scaffolders.
Our clients in these areas include:
H.J.Heinz, Frank Roberts Bakery, Trafford Park Bakery, Manor Bakery, British Airospace, Pataks, Barrs Soft Drinks, Rank Hovis McDougal, Scottish Courage Brewery, Robinsons Brewery, Duerrs Jam, Robert Wiseman Dairy, Pepsi Cola, Walkers Crisps, British Salt and many others.
Hygienic Access Scaffold
Particularly in food production areas, the use of timber boards is now prohibited in many factories. S & S responded to this and were the first scaffolding contractor in the UK to regularly use GRP planks in leu of traditional timber planks on our access scaffolds. Furthermore our scaffold materials for use on these sites are kept separately in our yard and are either new material or maintained in a clean condition. all scaffolds erected are fitted with plastic end caps to eliminate any open ends where debris may lodge and plastic base pads to protect floor surfaces. All access ladders used are metal.
Hygienic Scaffold Framed Screens & Tented Enclosures
We also have considerable experience in constructing temporary 'tent' enclosures and screens within this type of environment and are also able to meet the difficult programming constraints often associated with this type of work (i.e. weekend working etc).
We can construct several different grades of scaffold framed screens/enclosures;
a) Basic-consisting of scaffold framework and covered with one layer of reinforced plastic sheeting tied/fixed to scaffold with proprietary elasticated ties.
b) Tape Sealed-consisting of scaffold framework but with the addition of scaffold boards*clip fixed at approx 2.0m centers in order to provide a more rigid backing for the polythene. Scaffold framework is then covered in one layer of reinforced plastic sheeting as a), but is then subsequently covered with an additional layer of white flame retardant polythene with all joints lapped and sealed with matching white polythene tape. The additional layer of polythene is fixed by stapling or nailing into the backing planks. Finally all staples/nails are also covered with polythene tape.
c) Air-tight-consisting of framework as b) above but vertical walls formed with firesafe polyisocyanurate insulated composite panels which are faced both sides with white 'food-safe' stelvetite finish. All matching white trims and fixing channels are also provided. Bottom fixing channel/sole plate is fixed on 'denso tape' adhesive and all panel joints and abutments are sealed with white matching plastic tape. Where this type of screen is required to form a tented enclosure then the roof scaffold framework is generally as b) above, but a secondary layer of the white flame retardant sheeting can be fitted and held in place with battens nailed through to the backing planks.
We have also fitted air ventilation systems to our enclosures with fresh air input taken from outside the building being used to ventilate the enclosure with air extraction also being taken/vented to outside the main factory building.
NB: timber boards are generally used as 'backing boards' but we can pre-wrap these boards in polythene or paint finish them as required.
Besides working direct for food factories etc, we have established working partnerships with other Contractors who specialize in maintenance and refurbishment work in this sector:
Hawkins Construction; who are a main contractor
Kemtile; who are a specialist flooring contractor.
